About (no additional information)
Events Zakary John Zugehoer, 27, of Zion, Illinois, passed away May 10, 2026. He was born November 21, 1998 in Waukegan to parents Janet and Shawn Zugehoer.

Zakary graduated from Zion Benton High School and attended Journey Church in Kenosha, WI, he worked at Electrical Union 150.

Zakary “Zak” Zugehoer was a young man with a servant’s heart, a determined spirit, and a deep love for the people closest to him. Acting as a natural leader, Zak considered himself the protector of his siblings. He was a loving son, brother, cousin, godfather, and loyal friend whose presence brought strength, laughter, and comfort to so many.

Zak was known for his strong work ethic and his desire to master anything he set his mind to. During his high school years, he excelled in football and wrestling, where he formed lifelong friendships with teammates who became like family. He had a passion for building and remodeling and was gifted with his hands — there was hardly anything he couldn’t repair or figure out. He was working toward becoming an electrician and had recently developed a love for car repair, always eager to learn, grow, and perfect his craft.

More than anything, Zak loved taking care of the people he loved most. He faithfully helped his mother by keeping the home in excellent condition, handling repairs, helping with chores, and making sure she was cared for in every way he could. His love showed up not only in words, but in acts of service, protection, and unwavering loyalty. One of Zak’s greatest joys was his beloved cousin Lyric, whom he adored deeply. He treasured the special bond they shared, proudly taking her to father-daughter dances, reminding her that she was a princess, and always making sure she felt protected, cherished, and loved. In recent months, Zak had begun rededicating his life to the Lord and found peace and encouragement in attending church and listening to Pastor Kevin’s sermons. His faith journey was meaningful to him, and those who knew him saw his heart searching for hope, purpose, and God’s presence.

Though our hearts are broken by this tremendous loss, we hold onto the promise that God is near to the brokenhearted and that His love and mercy are greater than our understanding. Zak will be remembered for his generous heart, his determination, his protective nature, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His memory will live on in every life he touched.

Zak is survived by his mother, Janet Zugehoer; father, Shawn Zugehoer (Valentina); sister, Alexandra Santos, brothers, Kito Santos, Anthony Santos, and Zane, Zander, Zayden, Zeke and Cruz; aunt, Nicole Ison; cousin Lyric Dowdell-Ison; uncles, Brian Zugehoer, Jason Zugehoer & family; grandfather, Larry Zugehoer; and very close family friend, Antonio Elvir-Hernandez.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bernard Ison; grandmothers, Ana Ison, and Susan Zugehoer.
