Vern Edwards, 89, of Zion, IL, passed away peacefully at Aurora Hospital in Kenosha, WI.
Vern was born May 24, 1930 in Zion, IL to Earl and Lillian Edwards. He graduated from Zion-Benton High School with the class of 1948. Vern married Lily Connell on June 11, 1949 at the College Building in Zion, IL. He was a life-long member of Christ Community Church in Zion where he was active in many areas, including, the Zion Passion Play, Sanctuary Choir, and Camp Zion. He also performed along the north shore as a vocal soloist and sang for numerous weddings and funerals. Vern had a passion for building and spent much of his time working on various home and Camp Zion projects. Thoughout the years he helped build homes for family and friends.
Vern is survived by his children, Lorri (Eugene) Lerdahl, Larry (Diane) Edwards, Caralee (Randy) Bohringer, and Steve (Judy) Edwards; grandchildren, Danielle Lewis, Michael Sartain, Gina (Frank) Montemurro, Larry (Rachel) Bohringer, Casey (Phil) Gnacinski, Gary (Melissa) Bohringer, Reid Edwards, and Graham Edwards; great-grandchildren, Sydni (Nick) Reynolds, Ethan Lewis, Frank Montemurro Jr., Josephine Montemurro, James Bohringer, Lily Bohringer, Gideon Bohringer, and Noah Bohringer; brother, Bill Edwards; and sisters-in-law, Mary Connell and Laurel Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Earl and Lillian Edwards; wife of 68 years, Lily; brother, Ted Edwards; mother and father in law John and Lily Connell; and brothers-in-law, Bill and John Connell.
