Doris Covey Speer, age 95, of Zanesville, died at 1:55 am Monday August 31, 2009 at Adams Care Center.
She was born October 7, 1913 in Ithaca, New York and was the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Hattie Ellsworth Covey.
Doris was a teacher and principle for Zanesville City Schools from 1941 to 1973. She was the principle at Norval Park, James Madison, McIntire and Westview Schools. She also had taught at O.U.Z. She was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Business and Professional Womens Association, and the Blue Triangle Club.
She married Robert John Speer on June 20, 1979 and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1990.
No calling hours will be observed. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday Sept. 3, 2009 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Boyer officiating. Committal services will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
