Adam R. McLaughlin, 25, of West Newton, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh as a result of a construction accident.

He was born February 1, 1991 in Jeannette, PA, son of Janie McLaughlin and John Guthrie and Keith and Michelle Loughner. Adam was an independent laborer and a graduate of Yough Senior High School. Adam was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Keith McLaughlin and Brandon Bolam; nephews, Keith and Hayden McLaughlin. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Bigley Family Cemetery, Coulter, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Adam J. Skokut Jr., 18, of Smithton, went to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. He was born April 24, 1998, a son of Adam J. Skokut Sr. and Tammy Rhoades Skokut of Smithton. Adam worked with his father in their family business, A-Affordable Sanitation. He was attending the Allegheny County Plumbing School and attending the Word of Life Church in Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Adam and Mary Louise Skokut. In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by his maternal grandmother, Joyce Rhoades, of West Newton; his maternal grandfather, Arley Von, and his maternal great-grandmother, Edna Rhoades, of Sutersville; his sister, Samantha Skokut, of Sutersville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Adam was always happy; he loved life and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
The family will receive friends from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Bible Alliance Church, 1000 Mt. Pleasant Road, West Newton. There will also be viewing from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Frank Todaro presiding. Private interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery in South Huntingdon Township. RICHARD F. DODSON MEMORIAL HOME is entrusted with arrangements.

Adam Yackovich, 36, of Youngwood, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. Born Jan. 5, 1981, in Jeannette, he grew up in Bells Mills Road in West Newton. He was a graduate of Yough Senior High School, class of 1999, and also a graduate of Triangle Tech. He was a veteran of the Marines, having served in the Iraq War. He was employed by Pellman of Greensburg as an electrician. He was the son of George Yackovich Jr. and his wife Patricia, of West Newton, and his mother, Bonnie Heltebran, of Yukon. Also surviving are his sisters, Melissa Walters and her husband Ryan, of Greensburg, Angela Y. Dietz and husband George, of West Newton, and Amelia Yackovich, of Yukon; his maternal grandmother, Lois Heltebran, of Greensburg; a niece and four nephews who he loved dearly, Elizabeth Dietz, Adam Kerber, George Dietz III, Remington Walters and Edison Dietz; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Adam was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George Sr. and Clara Jane Yackovich. Adam will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, where a pomen service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A divine liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Father Ruman Stoychev as celebrant. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Honor Guard.

Alexander L. Benson, 25, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016. He was born July 23, 1991, in Greensburg, a son of Gary L. Benson, of New Alexandria, and Diane Verdin, of Greensburg. Alex was a computer wiz; he would help anyone he ever met. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Wesley Benson, of Pittsburgh; and two sisters, Audrey Verdin and Willow Verdin, of Greensburg.

Alice L. Peden Smyth, 76, of South Huntingdon Twp., passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning, August 21, 2016 at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Pa.
She was born March 9, 1940, in Smithton, Pa., a daughter of the late Michael and Hazel Huss Peden.
She was Catholic by faith and was a Graduate of South Huntingdon High School Class of 1958 and California University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1962. Alice was a retired school teacher for the Yough School District with 40 years of service.
She loved spending quality time with her three grandsons, who were the love of her life. She was also an avid lover of “All” animals.
Alice is gone from our lives but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her;

Alvia E. (Al) Layman, Jr., 74, of Reedsville passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Smithton, PA, April 2, 1938, a son of the late Lillian M. (Kalish) and Alvia E. Layman Sr. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a truck driver for CH&D Enterprises in New Stanton, PA and was a farmer. Alvia was a graduate of South Huntington High School and was Methodist by faith. He was member of the Monessen Masonic Lodge #0638 F & A.M. of Monessen, PA holding the 32nd degree and a member of the Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Coudersport, PA.

Alvia is survived by his wife, Janet Faye (Troup) Layman; a daughter, Susan Maund and husband Jeffrey of Bruceton Mills, WV; a sister, Linda Armstrong and husband Frank of New Stanton, PA; two grandsons, Staff Sgt. Jesse Maund and Specialist Chadd Maund; three uncles, Joseph Layman, John Kalish and Edward Kalish; two aunts, Freda Rorke and Donna Layman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert C. Layman.

To honor the request of the family services will be private. Interment to follow at West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, PA.

Alysa Danielle Kelly, 26, of Herminie, went to sleep with the angels Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. She was a loving mother, daughter and a good friend to many who knew her. She will be very sadly missed by those who she left behind. Alysa leaves behind her son, Malykai, 9; her daughter, Harley, 3; her loving father and friend, Dan Kelly, of Herminie; her loving mother, Lisa Snyder Karr and fiance, Rick McLarey, of Kecksburg; several aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins; and many good friends, especially including, Julie Shipley, the godmother and now foster parent to Harley.
A celebration of Alysa's life will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at the Herminie VFW Post No. 8427, where family and friends are all welcome to gather and remember Alysa. Amanda Jo Hixson, 26, formerly of Smithton, died in Washington, PA. She was born May 7, 1991, in Mckeesport, a daughter of Dana Hixson and Joe and Carol Hixson (Fleming) Lubovinsky. Amanda is survived by two sons; Robert and Eban, and a daughter Lizzy. Brothers; Nicholas, Zackery, Jimi, and Danny, Grandparents; Joy Hixson, MaryJane and Jim (JC) Christy, Vern and Darlene Fleming, and Helen E Lubovinsky, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by a grandfather Robert Hixson. Family and friends will be received from 12-9 PM Tuesday, in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St. Mt. Pleasant, PA, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10AM with the Reverend Richard Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greenlick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family for funeral expenses would be deeply appreciated. As a note of special awareness: Amanda died from cardiac arrest caused from many years of heroin abuse which started after pain pill addiction. Parent's, don't let your children become addicts. This has to stop. It's killing our society.

Andrew R. “Pete” Slivensky, 57, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:45 PM Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend.

Pete was born on June 24, 1955 in Greensburg, PA to the late Andrew A. and Vivian L. (Perry) Slivensky. He is a 1972 graduate of Yough Senior High School, Hermine, PA.

On April 14, 1981 in New York City, NY, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline S. (Keesling) Slivensky, who preceded him in death on September 14, 2007. In 1997 he moved from New York City to South Bend. He was a former truck driver and a devoted “Soldier” for the Salvation Army.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 17, 2013 at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 US 31 S, South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park is assisting with arrangements. Antoine M. "Tuggie" Baker Jr., 18, of Herminie, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015, of an accidental drug overdose. He was born Jan. 3, 1997, in Mt. Pleasant, son of Kathleen (Schaffer) Feltes and the late Antoine M. Baker Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dennis G. "Rockowl" Anthony; and his paternal grandparents, John and Shirley Baker. Tuggie would have been a graduate of the Yough Class of 2015 on June 8, 2015, and he was planning on joining the Air Force Aug. 13, 2015, to serve his country. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his little sister and brother. He was their biggest fan. In addition to his mother, Kathie, Tuggie is survived by his stepfather, William "Bill" Feltes III, and his sister, Nevaeh, and brother, Billy Feltes IV, all of Herminie; his grandma, Vivian "Fe Fe" Anthony, of Herminie; his girlfriend, Megan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much. Tuggie's smile and kindness will forever be remembered. A memorial service to celebrate Antoine's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the JOSEPH W. Audrey Mae Roebuck, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Life Care Center of Orange Park, Florida. She was born on June 19, 1930, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Audrey was salutatorian of South Huntingdon Township high school in Westmoreland County, PA, in 1948. Audrey then met the love of her life, Warren Carl Roebuck, and they were married June 19, 1952, at the Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton, PA. In Pennsylvania, Audrey gave birth to two children, Sandra and Lisa. Together they moved to Bradenton, Florida, in 1970. Audrey then graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Education in 1978. She taught elementary school for three years in the Manatee County School System in Bradenton, FL. Audrey was a member of Christ United Lutheran Church in Bradenton, FL. She taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Singing was one of Audrey's greatest passions, and she could often be heard singing "God Bless America." In 1985, Audrey and her husband Warren left Bradenton, FL, to move to Jacksonville, FL, to be near their grandchildren, Nicole and Justin. Audrey loved to travel on road trips and has visited every state but Hawaii. Audrey was also a great cook and known for her cherry pies and nut bread. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Warren Carl Roebuck. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Mae Roebuck of Ooltewah, Tennessee, and Lisa Carol Veal (James) of Jacksonville, FL. She also has two grandchildren, Nicole Marie Morrill (Timothy), and Justin Lee Veal, both of Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 29th in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment will be held at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery of Triangle, VA. The family wishes to recognize Life Care Center of Orange Park, FL, and Hospice of Northeast Florida for their loving care of Audrey.

Bertha "Bert"; (Pohley) Marsh, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg. She was born July 20, 1915, in South Huntingdon Township, a daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth (Brandenberg) Pohley. Bertha attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1932. She attended Geneva College, earned a teaching credential and taught in the South Huntingdon Township schools. Bertha was married to James C. Marsh, then with the Air Force, and moved with him to the various bases where he served. Bertha continued her studies toward a degree in teaching at California State Teachers College in Pennsylvania and at the University of Redlands in the state of California. After receiving her bachelor's degree, she taught for several years in the Colton, Calif., Public Schools. Jim and Bert had two sons, Richard James, born in 1947, and William Leigh, born in 1950. Jim and Bert returned to West Newton in 1982 to make their home. She was a member of Sewickley Presbyterian Church and was involved in many volunteer organizations. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1994; by brothers, Joseph and Fred Pohley; and by sisters, Mabel Pohley, Emma Bellan and Elizabeth Ometz. She is survived by sons, Richard, of Denver, Colo., and William, of Batavia, Ill.; and sister, Edith, of Redstone Highlands in Greensburg; as well as many nieces, nephews and other cherished relatives. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 901 Vine St., West Newton, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Eric N. Glisan officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.

William B. Janiro, 59, of Madison, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 14, 1957, in Greensburg, son of the late Charles and Elaine Gerber Janiro. He was a graduate of the Yough Senior High School Class of 1975 and then attended California State University in 1979 with a Bachelor's degree in industrial arts. He was retired as a woodshop and auto cad teacher from the Yough Senior High School, and was a former football, wrestling and track coach. He was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Herminie and also officiated at WPIAL wrestling as a wrestling official. Surviving is his son Brad Janiro and his girlfriend, Staci, of Greensburg; a daughter, Kaley Janiro, of Madison; two grandchildren, Bentley and Vienna Janiro; also surviving are four brothers, Charles Janiro Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, Roy Janiro and his wife, Sheila, Bobby Janiro and his wife, Jen, and Michael Janiro and his wife Becky, all of Tennessee; a close friend, his neighbor, Jim Lash; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison. A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Father Frank Gan, officiating. Interment will follow in the Madison Union Cemetery.

Brandon James "BJ" Cain, 35, of Smithton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1981 in McKeesport, the son of Arthur James Sr. and Jill Ilene Hobby Cain.
BJ was a 1999 graduate of Yough High School. For several years, he was a self employed truck driver in the local area. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #66 and the Western PA Side by Side & ATV Riders. BJ loved riding quads and was an avid Penn State fan.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Arthur James Cain, Jr. and wife Michelle of Smithton; maternal grandmother, Emma Tarli of Smithton; two nieces, Megan Gordish and husband Christopher and Sara Cain; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; his four legged kids, Chloe and Bella.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Kathryn Cain; and his maternal grandfathers, James Hobby and Sam Tarli.
Friends will be received on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Gerald Demarest officiating. Interment will follow in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth.

Corporeal. Bruce J. "Bud" Mozuch Jr., 21, of Darragh, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Camp LaJeune, N.C. He was born May 16, 1983, in McKeesport, a son of Bruce J. and Gail E. (Eller) Mozuch Sr. Cpl. Mozuch "Bud" was a graduate of Yough Senior High School, Class of 2001, where he was a three-year-letterman with the Yough Senior High Football Team. Cpl. Mozuch's date of entry into active service was Dec. 30, 2002. He was promoted meritoriously to corporeal on Sept. 2, 2004. Cpl. Mozuch's unit was the 3rd Battalion 10th Marines Second Marines Division. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard P. Mozuch Sr. and Hazel (Gillette) Mozuch; and his maternal grandmother, Clara (Miller) Eller. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Amanda Mozuch, of Darragh and Tabitha Eller, of North Carolina; and a nephew, Tyler Kerber, of Darragh. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. Christopher Joseph Ginter, 22, of Yukon, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013. He was born Aug. 16, 1991, in Pittsburgh, a son of Nicholas J. and Rose M. (Kimberly) Ginter. He was in the horticulture program at Penn College of Technology in Williamsport, a part of Penn State University, where he had been involved in an internship program in Philadelphia. A 2009 graduate of Yough High School, he also attended the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center and started his education at St. Edward Elementary School. Chris enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in West Newton, the German Club in Collinsburg, the Slovenian Club in Yukon and especially loved hanging with his brother and friends.

Christopher M. “Uncle Fish” LeGros, age 41 of Irwin, died at home Sunday September 21, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 25, 1973 in Alexandria, VA, a son of Linda M. (Bell) (husband Ray) Poorbaugh of Irwin with whom he resided and Terry (the late Judy) LeGros of VA. He was a graduate of Yough High School, a self-employed carpenter, loved to fish and participated in many fishing tournaments, and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his parents he is survived by siblings, Eddie (Jodi) Poorbaugh of Herminie, Justin (Christy) Poorbaugh of Berlin, and Shannon (Brian) Leigh, Stephanie (Tommy) Settle, and Sarah LeGros all of VA; grandparents, Betty “Nanny” (the late Richard) Bell and Virginia “Gigi” (the late Johnny) LeGros; nieces and nephews, Caleb, Evan, Cayley, Gage, Gavin, Noelle, and Colbie; aunts and uncles; many cousins with whom he grew up with and had a lifetime of memories; and his pet cat Shimano aka “Bubs”.
