| About Me | Issue, risk, and crisis manager specializing in high risk / low trust issues. Social media strategist and PhD candidate. Ice hockey goaltender and former ballroom dancer. See detailed bio here: http://www.linkedin.com/in/ricktreed Rick Reed helps the Intel Corporation detect and manage issues that if left unattended, might develop into crises that could impact Intel's $35 billion brand. Born somewhere in the hills of San Francisco, Rick (barely) graduated from Woodside High School. Thanks to a swift kick from a brilliant mentor, Rick returned to school and completed degrees at Notre Dame de Namur University (BS), Pepperdine University (MS), and Fielding Graduate University (MA), where he's currently a PhD candidate, (Psychology, with an emphasis in Media Psychology). He began his career working for several San Francisco radio and TV stations in a variety of news, marketing, and engineering positions. Following only a year in the life insurance business (do you like people who hate you?) and several years at the phone company (do you like crawling under houses?), he spent the better part of two decades working in and around San Francisco Bay Area public safety agencies first as a search and rescue volunteer, then as an emergency medical technician, crisis communicator, and emergency manager. Rick’s public sector work includes several Presidentially-declared disasters including the Loma Prieta, Northridge, and Landers-Big Bear (CA) Earthquakes, Rodney King Civil Unrest, and numerous winter storm disasters in three California counties. First as Public Information Officer for San Mateo County’s Office of Emergency Services (pop. 750,000), and then as Director of the Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Services (pop. 1.7 million). Most recently, he was Public Information Officer (PIO) for the 2010 San Bruno (CA) natural gas explosion and fire as a volunteer for the San Mateo County (CA) Sheriff’s Office. In 2009, Rick was named Volunteer of the Year for the Belmont (CA) Police Department for his work on a Department of Homeland Security project. Rick began his work at the Intel Corporation in 1998, helping them plan for the unintended consequences of natural and human-caused disasters, until he moved into Sales and Marketing where he has spent the last decade working on product and corporate reputation issues and crises. He's currently helping Intel to understand how social media plays in this space. He now lives just a few miles from where he grew up, with his beautiful wife and two tremendous kids who are constantly showing him just how lit...(read more) |
