Jim Rentz
Class of 1959
In 1983 Jim Rentz (Class of ‘59) had a vision of organizing an association of athletes who were members of state championship athletic teams at WHS. The mission was to award scholarships to WHS student athletes. In 1984 the Woodruff High School State Championship Alumni Association was born and the first “Spirit of Champions” Scholarship was awarded to Harold Washington. In the early 1990’s the association voted to change the name to Woodruff High School Athletic Alumni Association and open membership to all WHS alumni as well as faculty, staff, fans and friends of WHS athletics.
A scholarship has been awarded to a WHS student athlete every year since the inception of the association.
To become a member of WHSAAA, and to support the scholarship program, please send your dues of
$15.00 a year (check payable to WHSAAA) to Beth Rentz Grant (Class of ‘66) - Secretary/Treasurer, 2040 SJ Workman Highway, Woodruff, SC 29388. (Dues cover organizational expenses.)
To donate to the scholarship fund go to www.spcf.org and select Fund #0533 Woodruff High School Athletic Alumni Association.
