Harold O. Mathias

Marine Corps, 6 Years
After graduation Harold went directly into the marine corps where he did boot camp at paris island. He was stationed in the south pacific and was part of the first marine division that landed on Pelelu island on april 1st 1945. After that he went to the university of Cincinnati and the was hired by the pennsylvania railroad as a draftsman.When the Korean war started he was called up again and went through boot camp again. Washington was looking for a marine draftsman and he scored as the highest marine in his class so he was then stationed in Washington D.C. He served the remainder of his hitch as a staff sargent in Washington.

Served as a fighter pilot in TAC, flying the F80, and the F84F. Later in MATS, flew C97, KC97, KC97L in and our of Vietnam from 1967-1975. Later, in SAC, I flew the KC135, and was Squadron Commander of the 161CAM Squadron, retiring in 1985.

Our Withrow High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done!
