Karen passed away unexpectedly in 2002. She lived in Colleyville, Texas with her husband Ken (1970 WB alumnus band member, and computer science graduate of the University of Illinois). Karen was a semi-professional flutist, receiving a Masters degree in piano and flute later in life. She was a founding officer in the Texas Flute Society and maintained an active studio, teaching many successful flute students.
