Dennis "Coach" Sugino Obituary
Dennis “Coach” Sugino, 71, of Elgin passed away at home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 8, 1951 in Chicago the son of Frank & Sumiko (Okamoto) Sugino.
Dennis was a graduate of Western Illinois University and a Gold Circle Member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Dennis taught math early on but his main love was being a PE teacher, coach, and a fitness and conditioning influencer at Larkin High School for School District U-46, for 35 years prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Hameister Lang) Sugino; children: Heather (Don) Marczewski, Brian (Lauren) Lang, Sean Lang and Kellie Lang (Daniel Valdez); grandchildren: Hawk & Ruby Marczewski, Walker Lang and Kilian Valdez; Siblings: Kevin, and Susan (James) Bolster; nephew Matthew and niece Melissa Bolster. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 3-7:00 PM at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin ending the evening with a “celebration shot” to a man who meant so much, to so many. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Larkin High School Athletics Dept. specifically for strength and conditioning aka: the weight room.
