Class of 1970
Graduated from University of Illinois Medica School in Chicago in 1978 as 7th in my class of 360 doctors. I became an Assistant Clinical Professor teaching at University of South Florida medical students at Tampa General Hospital how do a clinical exams on pregnant women and how to delivery babies. I also completed a year of Neonatology taking care of premature infants during my residency in OB/GYN. I did a second residency in Anesthesiology at the oldest and most difficult to get into training program at Hartford Hospital and University in Connecticut with fellowship training at Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. I became very proficient at doing anesthesia for pediatric open heart and neurosurgery. I spent the majority of my practice in central Florida including becoming Director of Anesthesia at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach near Kennedy Space Center. I am presently semi-retired and working in the Florida Keys @Fishermen's Hospital in Marathon, Florida where I was just selected to become the Chief of Surgery during the next two years. I plan to fully retire in 2014 or 2015. It has been a fanatastic career where I have been directly involved in 44,000 surgical operations. Needless to say the OR is my home away from home. I plan to still teach areas such as ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and work on a few medical inventions while retired......also alot of travelling and boating is in my forseeable future. I'll let the younger doctors get up in the middle of the night and do the emergencies from now on. I deserve a rest. BooYah. Respectfully, Dr. Thomas G. Bouwkamp, M.D.,P.A. the Middle Keys Florida
