Carlene W. Powers, age 91, of Vinton, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 31, 2026, just two days shy of her 92nd birthday.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Walter Earl Powers; her parents, Alfred Wills and Janie F. Wills; and her brother, Ronald D. Wills.
Affectionately known as "Toodles" to her siblings and friends and "Auntie Puddin" to her nieces and nephews, Carlene was a loving, faithful, and devoted woman whose life was a blessing to her family, church, and community.
Carlene was born in Midway, Virginia, and graduated from William Byrd High School. She attended business school and worked as a Subligation Specialist for Aetna. She was a devoted member of Midland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 75 years and served as church secretary for 65 years. She loved singing in the choir and serving alongside her beloved husband, Earl.
Carlene found great joy in the simple things. She was an avid Mexican Train player and loved hosting family and friends around her kitchen table for many memorable games. She volunteered for many years at The Berkshire Nursing Home, where she became a favorite bingo caller among the residents. She also never missed an opportunity to send a card of encouragement, birthday wishes, and a Bible verse to family and friends. Her colorful spirit was reflected in her love of flowers and all things bright and cheerful.
She is survived by her sisters, Claudine W. Jenkins and Linda W. Ayers; sister-in-law, Virginia H. Wills; nieces, Wendy C. Cummings (Scott), Belinda A. Elliott (Matt), and Lisa W. Metz (Troy); nephews, Curtis L. Conner (Susan) and George D. Wills; and many beloved nieces and nephews on the Powers side of the family. She is also survived by her great-niece, Grey Anne Yeager (Griffin), and great-nephews, Tristan S. Cummings (Casey), Bryson A. Cummings (Edi), Austin Metz, and Alex Metz.
Carlene's family would like to thank everyone who loved, supported, and prayed for her throughout the years. A special thank you goes to Wendy and Scott for the extraordinary love and care they gave to Auntie Puddin'.
Although Toodles loved flowers and all things colorful, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Midland Baptist Church in her memory.
Carlene leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, love, and countless memories that will be treasured by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with Earl and celebrated her homecoming and 92nd birthday in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
