Barbara Johnson Wheeler, 83 of Vinton, passed away surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, May 20, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Garvis and Carlie Price Johnson, her husband, Donald Eugene Wheeler, and a sister, Janet Marie Johnson.
Barbara and Donald were charter members of Lynn Haven Baptist Church and the first couple to be married in the church. Barbara was strong in her faith and demonstrated her walk with God by working in various church committees and visiting members of the church at nursing homes. Barbara’s love and her devotion to her family was just as important and she made sure everyone in the family felt her love and knew how important they were to her.
She is survived by her three children, Kim Canterbury and husband Robert, Jeffrey Wheeler and wife Rhonda, and Donna Carr; seven grandchildren, Courtney Ashby (Mark), Morgan Bowles (Zach), Garrison Wheeler, Justine Wheeler, John Preston, Caleb Preston and Evan Fuqua; three great grandchildren, Florence Ashby, Christian Ashby and Blake Bowles, and numerous cousins and other relatives and church family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Lynn Haven Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Hackworth officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
