Austin Tyrone Board departed this life at the age of 63 years young at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, after a brief illness.
Austin was a graduate of William Byrd High School. He worked at Kroger in Vinton, Virginia, for many years until obtaining employment at the Vinton Weaving Mill, now called Precision Fabrics Group (PFG), where he continued to work until his health declined. He was a hard, diligent, and dedicated worker at PFG for over 40 years and obtained a supervisor position there.
Austin’s hobbies were football, basketball, hunting, fishing, and of course, going to all his nieces, nephews, and godchildren’s games, which were many. He spent most of his time with his many, many friends and family whom he loved dearly. He was a devoted father who grieved the loss of his daughter, Alexus, and his fiancée, Sandra Morgan. He was also a devoted brother, uncle, and friend to everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Board, Sr., and Laura Belle Andrews Board; daughter, Alexus Board; fiancée, Sandra Morgan; sister, Melvina Board; sister-in-law, Tracy Board; niece, Lacole Board, and her twin girls.
Austin leaves to cherish his memories: two sisters, Rita (Samuel) Wimbish, and Tonya Board; three brothers, James (Tina) Board, Jr., Alvin Board, Sr., and Brian (Nicole) Board; nephews, Alvin (Kayla) Board, Jr., James Dewayne Saunders, Travis Wiliams, Jr., Jaylen Board, Ramon McGeorge, Jr.; nieces, Shanickwa Williams, and Aiisha McGeorge; great nephew, Isaiah Board; great nieces, Anayah, Davorah, Maya, and Layla; aunts, Nancy Kasey, Betty Gracie Board; a host of many cousins; Sandra’s parents, Cris and Malcolm Rhodes, and John Morgan; and godchildren, Danielle, Jaylen, and Jayla.
A public viewing will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
