About	Shannon Thomas Burton, 61, of Vinton, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ginny Burton; his nephew, Chas Goodson; and a special uncle, Tommy Rogers. Shannon was born and raised in the Roanoke area, Shannon was a 1983 graduate of William Byrd High School. In 1990, he began a distinguished 32-year career with Carilion Clinic in Materials Management, where his dedication was a mainstay of the department until his retirement in March 2022. Retirement didn't mean slowing down for Shannon; instead, it allowed him to pursue his passion for athletics. He thoroughly enjoyed his time as a referee and umpire, serving as a respected member of the Western Virginia Football Officials Association (WVFOA) and the Roanoke Softball Umpires Association (RSUA). Whether he was officiating for the South County Recreation League or USA Travel Softball, Shannon's presence on the field was defined by his love for the game. When he wasn't officiating, he could often be found cheering on the Hokies, hitting the golf course, or traveling to new destinations and spending time with his family. Shannon's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Stephanie Burton; his daughter, Sydney Burton and her boyfriend, Aaron Nichols; and his brother, David Burton and wife, Angie. His memory will also be cherished by his nieces and nephews, Alisha Elam and her husband, Rob, and their son, Connor, Lexi Goodson, and Derek Burton; his beloved dogs, Zoey and Cooper; and a vast circle of extended family and countless friends. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing team at Carilion Clinic Hospice for their exceptional care and compassionate support. A celebration of Shannon's life will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 3:00 pm, with Dr. Michael Wrye officiating.
