| About | Virginia W. Chisom, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully on January 10, 2026, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy and devotion to her family. She was a woman full of life, grace and warmth, whose presence brightened every room she entered. Born on January 30, 1934, to the late Richard Taylor Wilson and Maude Juanita Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Wilbert E. Chisom; sisters, Juanita Weaver and Mary Frances Milton; as well as son in law, Bucky Wampler. Virginia is survived by her beloved daughters, Deborah (Debbie) Crawford and husband Edward Crawford of Union Hall, Va., and Sherry Wampler of Salem, Va. Also cherishing her memory are her grandchildren, Leigh Crawford and husband Troy Frensley, Will Crawford and wife Heather, Travis Wampler and special friend, Krystal Snavely, and Casey Wampler; great-grandchildren, Rosalie and Oceana Frensley, Declan Crawford, and Skylar Wampler. They brought her endless joy; to them she was affectionately known as “Gigi.” Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara Payne and husband, Dale, and Marie Lynch; as well as many nieces and nephews. Virginia lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She was known for her joyous spirit and her love of dancing the night away with family and friends. She embraced life with enthusiasm and joy, loving the beach, traveling, and making memories with those she loved. She and her husband shared many adventures together, including several cruises, and she especially treasured her trips to Hawaii. Virginia also deeply valued friendship and was part of a small, close-knit group of special friends who met weekly for lunch - gatherings filled with laughter, conversation and companionship that she truly cherished. She was a proud member of Electa Chapter # 33, Order of the Eastern Star in Roanoke, Va., and was a devoted member of Goodwin Memorial Methodist Church in Salem, VA. Virginia will be fondly remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love of family and the joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her warmth, energy, and zest for life, a shining example of love and joy to all. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bandy Cemetery, 4686 Bandy Rd, Roanoke, Va. 24014. Reception immediately following; location will be announced at graveside service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the employees of Salem Terrace Assisted Living, Salem and Good Samaritan Hospice of the Roanoke Valley for their compassionate care, kindness and support.
