About	Vernon Boone Jamison Jr., of Daleville, Virginia, was born December 18, 1929, and went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2025, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon Jamison Sr. and Carrie Jamison. Vernon leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years Naomi Jamison, and is also survived by his younger brother, Mike (Jo Ann) Jamison; his children, Neal (Kristin) Jamison and Robyn (Keith) Porterfield; and two grandchildren, Evan Jamison and Andrew Porterfield. A Roanoke native and graduate of William Byrd High School, Vernon served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and otherwise spent his entire career at Norfolk Southern before retiring in 1988. In retirement, he kept busy woodworking, playing piano, serving in many ministries in his church, and golfing weekly well into his 90s, while enjoying the friendship of his neighbors at The Glebe Retirement Community. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Vernon later found fellowship at Daleville Baptist Church for as long as he was able. More than his pastimes, Vernon will be remembered for the joy he brought to others. Friends often said, “My life was better because I knew him.” To his family, he was simply “Papa,” a source of laughter, warmth, and love at every gathering. The family will hold a celebration of life on Thursday, August 28, at 11 a.m. at The Glebe Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Daleville Baptist Church.
