About Mark Edward Butterworth, 45, of Vinton, Va., was called home suddenly on Thursday, April 19, 2018. He was a beloved son, husband, father and friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Proctor Butterworth.

Mark leaves behind his wife, Nicole Saunders Butterworth; daughter, Sarah; son, Daniel; his parents, Billy and Carol Butterworth; brother, Brian Stone and his wife, Hollie; father-in-law, Glenn Saunders; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He worked for more than 20 years with Roanoke City in the Building Maintenance Department and in 2015, Mark transferred to the Sheriff’s Office. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, trap and any shooting sports. Mark also loved to share his knowledge about guns and reloading. He was a 1992 graduate of William Byrd High School; a member of Vinton Baptist Church; a member of Chestnut Mountain Hunt Club of Franklin County; and a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Vinton Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Monroe, Rev. Brian Geiser officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel.
