About Master Sergeant William E. "Bill" Spraker, II, 41, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was raised in Roanoke, Va. and graduated from William Byrd High School in 1984. He enrolled in delayed enlistment his senior year and entered the United States Air Force that summer as a Security Specialist. In his 23 years of service, Master Sergeant Spraker had completed associates degrees through the Community College of the Air Force in Law Enforcement, Workforce Education and Electronic Systems Technology. His military education included the Security Police Academy, Unit Training Management Course, Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Senior NCO Academy by correspondence, and Computer-Comunications Systems Control Basic course. Master Sergeant Spraker was a Systems Control Officer in the DISA-Europe Theater Network Operations Center, Patch Barracks, Germany. Past assignments include: Systems Control Project Manager GIG-BE, 375th CS, Scott AFB, Ill., NCOIC, Technical Control Facility, 375th CS, Scott AFB, Ill., Unit Training Manager, 341st Civil Engineers, Malmstrom AFB, Mont., NCOIC, Arms and Equipment Facility, 839th Security Police, Malmstrom AFB, Mont., NCOIC, Fire Direction Center, 8th SPS, Kunsan AB, Republic of Korea, MK-19 gunner, Nuclear Material Convoy Response Force, 343rd SPS, Malmstrom AFB, Mont.
Master Sergeant Spraker was preceded in death by his father, William E. Spraker; grandparents, William H. and Katie A. Spraker and John and Eva Edwards; and an aunt, Catherine Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa; and children, Morgan, Amber, and Connor of Havre, Mont.; and son, Ryan and wife, Barbie Spraker, of Great Falls, Mont.; his mother, Drucilla E. Spraker of Roanoke, Va.; sisters, Angie Scott and husband, Doug, and their children, Katie, Jakob, Noah, and Emily, all of Fredericksburg, Va., Sandy Harden and husband, John; and their daughter, Callie of Roanoke, Va.; and numerous other family and friends.
Family will receive friends at Oakey's Vinton Chapel on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, September 7, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with burial following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
