Shirley Wood Ranson, 88, of Roanoke, VA, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Clyde Ranson; parents, Henry Cline Wood Sr. and Elinor Witt Wood; brother, Henry “Cline” Wood Jr; and sister, Audrey Virginia Wood Patsel.
Her love and legacy are survived by her children and spouses, Sonya Ranson Echols (Jim) and Ryan Kendall Ranson (Michaelina); and grandchildren, Kendall Ranson, Ally Echols, Lauren Echols, Jared Harshberger, and Camron Harshberger.
Shirley graduated from William Byrd High School where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Pleasant community where she worked as the church secretary at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Over the years she enjoyed her time with high school friends at monthly ladies’ lunches, annual school reunions, and many trips to the beach. She was very active in her Holiday Rambler RV Club and traveled across the United States meeting new friends, playing card games and participating in other fun activities. She very much enjoyed tending to her beautiful flowers and spending time at the Surf Side Beach condo with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Shirley’s name to the Good Samaritan Shelia S. Strauss Hospice House, Roanoke.
