| About | Tammy Lynne Vaught, 60 of Goodview, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shelby J. Hurt, maternal grandmother, Evelyn Hudson, and paternal grandparents, Ernie and Ophelia Hurt. A Roanoke native, Tammy graduated from William Byrd High School and studied Criminal Justice at VA Western. She worked for 24 years as the Accounting Manager Agent for TNT Rentals, and most currently worked for 29 years as the Office Manager at Leonard's Copy systems. Tammy was a member of the Vinton Chamber of Commerce for many years as well as served on the Board of Directors at the Roanoke SPCA. Tammy was a passionate dog lover, participating in many dog activities throughout the years including traveling for dog agility and nose work trials. Her past four legged friends included, Madison, Izzy, Steele, Addy and Salsa. Her current four legged companion, Mario, went to hunting school during her recent illness and he was her inspiration for getting better so he could return home. During the last five months of her illness, Tammy enjoyed spending time on her sister and brother-in-law's farm. She would help feed the animals and spent time sitting on the porch watching the pastures and wildlife passing by. She said the farm was her "safe place" and allowed her to "feel free from life." Tammy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Michelle Leonard, grandchildren, Madyson Leonard, Maryssa Leonard and MyKenzie Weaver; her father, Earnie B. Hurt, sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Eric Loyd, and a nephew, Tyler Loyd. Special people left to cherish her memory are Gary and Corey Sensabaugh, Jacob, Courtney and Aubreigh Hockman. Tammy was known for being a fighter and she fought till the end. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank Jordan, Shelby and Erin on 8 South ICU who not only cared for Tammy with compasion and kindness but gave the same support to her family; and to family and friends for their prayers and love this year. A Celebration of Tammy's Life will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 12:30 to 2 PM, with a service beginning at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, Tammy requested donations be made to League of Animal Protection in Fincastle, VA. |
