Barry Ashburn, 66, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Born on April 8, 1959, Barry was a dedicated family man, a proud veteran, and passionate about life’s simple joys.
Barry served honorably in the United States Coast Guard for four years before embarking on a 38-year career as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. His work ethic and commitment were admired by all who knew him.
Barry was a man of deep faith and found strength and peace in reading his Bible. He lived an active life and was passionate about physical fitness, including lifting weights, cycling, and landscaping. He found joy in hobbies such as working on jigsaw puzzles, playing video games, and flying model airplanes and drones. A high school wrestler himself, Barry remained an enthusiastic supporter of Virginia Tech wrestling.
Above all, Barry especially treasured the time he spent with his beloved grandchildren, Ava and Matthew. His presence in their lives brought immense joy and lasting memories.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Ashburn, and his sister, Connie Ashburn.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Norma Ashburn; his daughter, Kara Garrett (Shawn); his grandchildren, Ava and Matthew; his brother, Garry Ashburn (Bonnie); and his niece and nephew, Andrea and Eric.
A graveside service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor David McNeill officiating.
