About | Sister Gabrielle Branscome, 91, a native of Grundy, VA, died at Nazareth Home on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Sister had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 68 years. Sister served in the apostolate of elementary and secondary education as both principal and teacher in Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio and Arkansas for 25 years. She was principal of St. Barnabas School, Louisville, from 1962-65. Sister worked in the Admitting Office at Nazareth College, Nazareth, KY from 1965-69. Sister served as secretary to the superior general at SCN Center from 1972-80 and as secretary to NLBI, Nazareth, KY from 1972-84. Sister served in Health Care at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Little Rock, AR from 1969-72, and as secretary to the SCN Health System for several months in 1984. From 1985-92 Sister served as secretary in Pomeroy, OH for the Diocese of Steubenville. During the next ten years Sister served as secretary at the Motherhouse, Nazareth, KY. In July 2002 Sister became a resident at Nazareth Home. Survivors include one sister, Catherine B. Cox; and a niece, Marilyn Rooney, both of Richmond, VA; three nephews, Daniel Cox of Glen Allen, VA, Philip Cox of Mechanicsville, VA, and Charles B. Cox of Richmond, VA; and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home, Louisville, and after 4 p.m. on Friday in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth.
