About | George Harrington Seibel, 76, passed away in his home on Saturday, September 15, 2007, following a courageous battle with Lymphoma. George was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on April 19, 1931. His childhood and adult life was spent in Roanoke, Virginia where he established his first generation farm in 1965. George later established an award-winning dairy farm which transitioned into a beef operation. His last venture was to establish a vineyard operation. This nurturing spirit led George to actively pursue participation in the community. George was a member of the Bonsack United Methodist Church and 50 year member of the Bonsack/Blue Ridge Ruritan Club. A favorite pastime was the Senior Bowling League. Known by all for his dedication to helping neighbors, family, and friends, his gift for giving to others in thanks for his many blessings will be his lasting legacy. After graduating William Byrd High School, he attended Ferrum College. Prior to starting his own farm, he was a supervisor for the Virginia Tech Dairy Barn; Milk Tester for DHIA and a partner at Seibel Brothers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Myrtle "Cookie" Whitt Seibel; son, George Andrew "Andy" Seibel and wife Megan Ibach Seibel, son John Douglas Seibel and daughter Judy Eleanor Seibel; three grandchildren, Theresa Eleanor Seibel, Claire Elizabeth Seibel and Andrew Harrington Seibel. His surviving siblings include brother, John D. Seibel and wife Hallie; sister, Martha "Lou" Rader and husband James "Corky"; sister, Virginia "Ginny" Keith and husband Eddie; and sister, Betsy S. Hoback and husband Lewis and a host of nieces and nephews. George's death was predeceased by his parents, John George Seibel and Sylvia Harrington Seibel; infant granddaughter, Paula Anne Seibel; sister Sylvia "Sybil" King and brother in law Jerry King. Visitation will be at Oakey's East at Bonsack on Monday, September 17, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, September 18, 2007 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 11 a.m., at Bonsack United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard A. Daily officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family will establish an agriculture scholarship through for the Virginia FFA (206 Litton Reaves Hall; Blacksburg, Va., 24061) or donations may also be made to the Bonsack United Methodist Church. The family hopes that everyone will consider donating platelets and blood so that someone else's daddy may live another day. |
