About Margaret Tess Brown Markham Fullerton, 75, of Vinton, Va., went to sing in God's choir on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Tess died after a brief battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. on April 10, 2010, at Blue Ridge Baptist Church, 2410 Hardy Road, Vinton. The Reverend Eugene Koger will officiate. The family will receive visitors from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Tess was born on October 4, 1934, in Roanoke, Va., to Frances and St.Clair Brown. She grew up in the Roanoke area and graduated from William Byrd High School. Tess married Gordon Bruce Markham in 1955. They raised their two children, Daniel and Joy, on Feather Road in Vinton. Tess watched other children in their home. Gordon died in 1984.
Tess went back to school and studied to be a nurse's assistant. She continued to show her love of children by working with them at the hospital. Because of her job she met her second husband, John Fullerton. Tess and John spent 23 wonderful years together. They loved to travel and Tess had been to every state in the United States except for Hawaii.
Tess loved spending time with her family, and she always made her visits home special and festive affairs. She was involved in many activities in the park at their Florida home. On caravans and in the park she never met a stranger. She made friends wherever she went. Tess enjoyed reading, tending her flowers, singing, playing the piano, doing laundry, and church activities. She was always ready to play a game with her grandchildren, Dominoes and Kings in a Corner were two of her favorites.
During her 75 years, Tess touched the lives of many offering love, kind words, a listening ear, or a good meal to all who crossed her path. She was a kind soul that never held a grudge. And she "never" spoke a bad word about anyone. She will be deeply missed.
Tess was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dean; and her first husband, Gordon.
Tess is survived by her husband, John; her brother, Paul; her sister-in-law, Faye; her son, Daniel; her daughter, Joy; her son-in-law, David; her daughter-in-law, Melissa; her grandchildren, Bruce, Charles, Matthew, Jonathan, Jack, Katrina and Dakota; her nieces, Catherine, Deann, Dori, Linda, Missy, Robin, and Sarah; and her nephews, Brian, Eddie, Jimmy and Steve.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to your local hospice.

Tess was a blessing to us. She was my son, Patrick Etter, babysitter for many years. She was a loving care giver to him and he loved her very much.
