About Claudia Catherine Kelly Resnick, 57, of Roanoke, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She was born on February 23, 1955, in West Warwick, R.I., to the late George and Lydia Kelly. She graduated from West Warwick High School in 1973. She received a bachelor's degree in teaching and psychology from Rhode Island College in 1977 and a master's degree in vocational rehabilitation from the University of Northern Colorado in 1980.
She was employed as a special education teacher by Roanoke County Schools for 16 years and was a Special Education Coordinator at William Byrd High School. She retired from Roanoke County Public Schools in 2011. Claudia was also was employed as a teacher with CETA and TAP and as Employment Service Worker for Roanoke City in the 1980s.
While employed as a Vocational Consultant for Crawford Health and Rehabilitation Services, she was honored with an award of Vocational Specialist of the Year, 1989, Mid-Atlantic Region. She served as Chairman of the Writing Contest Committee in the Roanoke Optimist Club. Claudia belonged to Temple Emanuel, where she served on both the Social Committee and as a Jewish Community Preschool Board member.
Claudia is survived by her husband of 36 years, Kenny (Redneck) Resnick; and three children, Victoria, Ana, and Eddie Resnick, the loves of her life; and her brother, Christopher Kelly, of West Warwick, R.I. Also surviving are Claudia's mother-in-law, Gilda Resnick; aunt, Alyce Schroff; sisters-in- law, Deb Cicero and husband, Fred, Sharon Gilstein and husband, Andy, and Frima Palumbo and husband, Peter; nieces, Amy and Amanda Gilstein; and numerous other family members. Also surviving are cousins, George and Kathleen Resnick. Thanks for your continuous support and love.
Claudia enjoyed sharing heart-to-heart talks and keeping up with the adventures of Victoria, Ana, and Eddie, her beloved children. Forever in her heart is her "love-at-first-sight" husband and soul-mate, Kenny.
Claudia made strong bonds with her friends and those that knew her cherish memories of her loyalty and humor. Friends will recall her adorable flamboyance and quick wit. Her sense of humor was often exhibited in some of her favorite activities including family gatherings and intimate evenings with friends.
Claudia had a variety of interests, including painting with oils, home decorating, cooking and traveling. She sewed many of her own clothes and was a voracious reader. Kenny and Claudia enjoyed bird watching from their deck during their retirement and travel.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012, at Temple Emanuel. Interment will follow at the Jewish Cemetery, on Route 460 in Roanoke at 11 a.m.
Shiva will be observed at the family home on Friday, July 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
The Resnick family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Disabled American Veterans of Roanoke or the Blue Ridge Oncology Department at Lewis Gale Medical Center.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
