John William Burkholder, 87 died peacefully July28, 2012. The son of John William Burkholder,Sr. and Ruth Hutchins Burkholder, he graduated valedictorian from William Byrd High School in 1941 before beginning a 44-year career with Norfolk & Western. He was a pioneer in the railroad's conversion to computers in the 1960s and retired as a Senior Systems Analyst.
Mr. Burkholder, was predeceased by his wife, Catharine Kidd Burkholder. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in law, Brad and Yvonne Burkholder and Jay and Stephanie Burkholder, and one granddaughter, Catharine Lura Burkholder.
The family will recieve guests Monday, July 30, 2012 from 2-4 P.M. & 6-9 P.M. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
Funeral service will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 with Pastor B. Falles officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
