About	Sarah Chisom Alouf, 84, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, January, 3, 2013 in Decatur, Ga. She graduated from William Byrd High School, Class of 1947. Sarah spent her life volunteering and giving to others as she served in numerous clubs and organizations and made a career as an eligibility specialist and supervisor with the Department of Children and Family Services in Arkansas, North Carolina and Virginia. Upon retirement in May 1993, she volunteered as an adult literacy coach in Lenoir, N.C. and received the 9 Who Care Volunteer Award in North Carolina for Adult Literacy volunteering. Family was most important to Sarah. Her home was filled with pictures, ceiling to floor, of her family. She attended all of her grandchildren's graduations from high school and college, weddings, and visited her three great grandchildren at birth in the hospital. She called every family member on their birthday and sang Happy Birthday to them and mostly loved celebrating holidays together. Sarah was a huge Atlanta Braves fan, never missing a televised game and staying up late to watch the west coast games. She was predeceased by her parents, Otha Hugo and Lottie Mae Chisom; husbands, Harry E. Beatty Jr. and Albert Alouf; daughter, Teresa Helton; siblings, James, Bill, Arthur, and Harold Chisom, Helen Hines, Jean Arthur and Bernice Trent. Surviving family includes her children, Joanne Gillespie and husband, James, of Decatur, Ga., H E Beatty, of Hickory, N.C., Philip Beatty and wife, Donna, of Roswell, Ga. and son-in-law, Brent Helton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jay, Julie, Lee, Alex, David, Nick, Sarah, Matt, Carol, Tony and Jackie; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Lillian and Burk. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will be held at Hotel Roanoke after the service. Friends may visit just prior to the service. She will be missed by her adoring family and friends.
