About Phyllis Lee Snyder Haupt, 76, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. She was born to the late Dewey Luzelle and Herbert H. Snyder on December 20, 1936, the youngest of nine children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Jimmy Haupt; sisters, Eleanor McDowell, Iris McCallum; and brothers, Francis Norwood Snyder and wife, Ruth, William A. (Jack) Snyder; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Snyder.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Deanna (Candy) Sensabaugh and son-in-law, Marty; granddaughters, Chrissy and Brittany (Cory); sons, Michael (Wanda) Haupt, Timmy Haupt, Billy Haupt, and Buzz Haupt; sister, Gretna (Raymond) Hostetler; brothers, Wesley (Coke) Snyder, Herb (Dixie) Snyder, and David Snyder; sisters-in-law, Geneva Snyder and Ann Lafferty Snyder; and brother-in-law, Mac McCallum. She had numerous other beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friend, Harold Francisco.
Phyllis graduated from William Byrd High School, enjoying her basketball career there. She was a long-time employee of C&P Telephone Co. She enjoyed bowling in leagues for many years and more recently spent many hours crocheting afghans and giving them away. The family had many fun times with Phyllis and her sister, Gretna, playing any songs that were requested by ear on the piano. Phyllis was a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Oakey's East Chapel with Dr. Michael Wrye officiating. Entombment will follow in the Old Dominion Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Friday July 19, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
