About | Frances (Ann) Thurman Dickerson, of Roanoke, died on May 27, 2014 at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. Ann was born January 7, 1942. Her parents, William Allen Thurman, Sr. and Evelyn McGuire Thurman, preceded her in death. Ann grew up in Vinton and graduated from William Byrd High School. She also attended William and Mary College. Ann lived in Roanoke for most of her adult life. She spent 14 years in Atlanta, GA, but returned to Roanoke with her husband, Ray D. Dickerson, to spend their retirement years. Ann is survived by her husband, Ray, son, Scott W. Dickerson, and his wife, Lee Anne, and grandson, Jordan, of Chesapeake, VA, step-son, David R. Dickerson and his wife Linda, of Gaithersburg, MD, step-grandchildren: Jennifer Finney and Chris Dickerson, step-great grandson Julian Samonte, brother, Dr. William Allen Thurman, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Richmond, VA, and three nieces: Kathryn Ann LeBey, Dr. Sarah Thurman, and Susan Thurman Nunnally. Special friends that loved Ann include: Linda Cunningham, Judy Crawford, Barbara Wheeler, and Carolyn Taylor. Ann found great joy in being a mother and grandmother. She loved music, flowers, people, and the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed learning about people and their families. Ann displayed grace, courage, and determination as she battled cancer and the long-term effects of treatment. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Our Lady of the Valley Nursing Care and Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful care that Ann received and the support provided to her family. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Oakey's South Chapel, Pastor Dan Freeland will officiate and interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will received friends on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Oakey's South Chapel, www.oakeys.com. |
