About Sherwood Douglas Woodford, 71, of Botetourt County passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015. He was born February 5, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. Sherwood is survived by his wife, Rose Moses Woodford; daughter and son-in-law, April Woodford Walker and Benjamin K. Walker; brother, Donald Woodford; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Cosmo. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Arthur Woodford; sister, Joyce Dalton; and sister-in-law Diane Woodford. Sherwood was a graduate of William Byrd High School, served in the Army Reserves, and then worked his way through technical school. Following graduation, he was employed by C&P Telephone Company and his position evolved into AT&T. A long term employee when he retired, he accepted a part-time position with UPS. Usually a quiet man, he maintained a great sense of humor. He had a loving smile and a wonderful heart, and his family gave him great joy and blessings throughout his life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. An avid sports enthusiast, he had a passion for golf, and liked to hunt, fish and bowl. Sherwood left his family with peaceful and loving memories and while we know he is with God, we feel his presence with us. A member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church, he was strong in his faith. His family will always hold him close in their hearts to walk their paths with them and one day they will be together again. A memorial service will be held at Lynn Haven Baptist Church in Vinton at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, with Dr. Michael Wrye officiating.
