About Gary Lynn Sexton, 56, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2015. He was born on December 6, 1958, to Peggy and Gene Sexton. He was a graduate of William Byrd High School and a lifelong member of the Wesleyan Church.Immediately recognizable and completely unforgettable, Gary loved life and was known for his immense kindness and his fun spirit. He enjoyed being around people yet cherished his time with his loved ones. He was proud of his family and strove hard to support all around him. Moreover, Gary was also known throughout the Roanoke Valley and beyond as a creative talent second-to-none. Through his work at Reid's Fine Furnishings, his design work will live on in homes and in people's lives across the region as a testament to his life.Gary is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sheila Ellis Sexton; and his sons, Cody and Caleb Sexton. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Overholt; and niece, Meleah Overholt of Christiansburg; his brother-in-law, Clifford Ellis, wife, Tammi Ellis; and nephews, Tyler and Logan Ellis of Fredericksburg; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Ellen Ellis of Roanoke. Gary is also survived by other family and friends too numerous to name who will cherish his memory.He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.A service celebrating Gary's life will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015, at First Wesleyan Church, 3706 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019, with the Rev. Herb Shaffer officiating, the Rev. Jim Harrison, the Rev. Matt Reynolds, and Mr. Bill Overstreet assisting. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Oakey's South Chapel.
