About Otis Sherwood Taylor , 85, of Blue Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2017. Sherwood was born January 29, 1932 in Roanoke County to the late Henry Hugh Taylor and Mollie Betty Perdue. He was the husband of 64 years to Merlene Lois Hendrick. Sherwood was a graduate of William Byrd High School, class of 1951. He was an Army veteran serving our country in the Korean War. He enjoyed attending class reunions, playing golf, gardening, and spending time with family. Sherwood’s career in UPS as an district automotive manager took him to Maryland, Michigan, and New Jersey. After he retired from UPS, he returned home to Virginia. Sherwood is survived by his wife, Merlene, of the home; son, Rick Taylor (Barbara), daughter, Sherlene Jones (Ken), daughter, Suzanne Taylor-Bernstein, and son, Mark Taylor. He leaves six grandchildren whom he dearly loved: Cortney, Lindsey, Kelsey, Rachael, Dan, and Mark, Jr. He is also survived by his aunt, Virginia Perdue Smith, brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Donna Hendrick Davids, and many cousins. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 12 p.m at Oakey’s East Chapel with internment to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following service. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home.
