About Andrew “Bill” Belcher , 85, of Roanoke, was called home on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was a father who always worked more than one job at a time and found time to enjoy life as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a charter member of the Vinton Church of the Brethren, and a current member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. He graduated from William Byrd High School and after serving in the Army obtained an accounting degree from Virginia Business College. He worked as a dock worker at Jones Motor Lines for 30 years, was a partner in A&B Tax Service, a real estate agent for Century21, and a tax preparer at H&R Block. Before finally retiring he became a registered gemologist and worked for Henebry’s and Ginger’s Jewelers. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merle Marie Belcher; parents, Clarence and Bertha Belcher; three siblings William Belcher, Elmer “Booty” Belcher, and Ora Mae “Sis” Reynolds; two grandsons; Travis Byrd and Anthony Michael Payne and one great-grandson Ashtin Byrd. He is survived by his three children and their spouses Debbie (Paul) Byrd, Karen (Tony) Payne and Andrew “Andy” (Terri) Belcher, two grandsons Chad and Eric (Terra) Byrd, and four great-grandchildren; Braelyn, Cadin and Dristin Byrd, and Arabella “Bella” Belcher. The family will receive friends at Oakey’s East Chapel on Sunday, May 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service, officiated by Pastors Earl Clemons and Wayne Wyatt, will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Oakey’s East Chapel. Internment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. His children would like to express their appreciation to all of his caregivers, especially his granddaughter, Terra, and his friends and staff at the Villages of Pheasant Ridge, Brookdale, the 2W staff at Richfield Nursing home, Salem VA Medical Center and Carillion Hospice Services of Roanoke. Over the past few years all of you have touched Bill’s heart and soul with your love, care, dedication, healing hands, and warm hearts.
