About	Robert Lee Short, Jr. 75 of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He was preceded by his daughter, Christy Leigh Short,; father, Robert (Bob) Short, Sr.; mother, Frances (Muriel) G. Short and brother, Russell Lewis Short. Robert was a graduate of William Byrd High School and alumni of Virginia tech. He was a Vietnam War Veteran who served his country as a Major in the United States Army, worked 20 years for The US Steel Corporation in Pittsburg, PA and self-employed as R. L. Short Contracting and Landscaping. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190. Robert held the position of Stewart. Robert was best known for his love for cooking, reading and most of all history. To cherish his memory, devoted loving wife of 56 years, Brenda M. Short,; sister-in-laws, Janet Short and Sandra (Bobby) Bowman,; special niece, Cathy (Wayne) Watson,; special nephews, Michael Bowman and Bob (Nyokia) Bowman,; best friends, Mike Grubb and Wayne and Patty Ramsey,; faithful friend, Ruckus and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the excellent doctors, nurses and caregivers at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for all the care they provided. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Oakey’s North Chapel with Pastor Albin Crutchfield officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, Virginia.
