About Ann Estelle Divers, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 16, 1936, in Vinton, Virginia, and spent most of her life there; graduating from William Byrd High School.
Mama worked at the old Vinton Library for many years and for a time was the librarian at the old Middle School.
She retired from CVS.
My Mama enjoyed reading and had many books. She loved sports. She played on the basketball team in High School. She actually loved all sports, Chicago Bulls, Clemson Tigers, soccer, tennis and ice hockey.
In her younger years she loved to skate and waterski.
Mama was also patriotic and a strong democrat. Most of all Mama loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, her parents Glennie and Elmer Stanley; sister, Shirley Colbert; her brothers, Johnny, Phillip and Billy Stanley; and the only dog she ever loved, her poodle, Francine.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Stevens (Mark) of Bedford; her granddaughters Amber DeCanter (Joe), Ashley DeCanter (Nathan), of BedfordAfton Bowyer (Trevor), of Roanoke; great-grandaughters, Moriah, Lily, Kayleigh and one on the way, Klover Bowyer; great-grandsons Mazdyn, Mars, Owen and Oren. Also surviving are her sister, Bettie Hall of Fincastle; sisters-in-law Molly Stanley and Liz Moore of Roanoke, Helen Ronk of Fincastle, Rosa Divers of Maryland, Barbara Divers of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of the family that Mama loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, her nephews Richard and Billy Ronk will officiate.
