About Betty Marshall, 94, of Vinton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

She was born in Roanoke County, Va., daughter of the late William and Lera Lakes. Her beloved husband of 70 years, Julian Marshall preceded her in death by 30 days.

Betty was on the "Cradle Roll" and a lifelong member of Vinton Baptist Church. Some of the ways she served were by singing in the choir, playing the piano, and teaching Sunday School. Known for her care and compassion; she gladly volunteered to drive people to their appointments and errands for those unable to drive.

She was the president of her Class of 1945 at William Byrd High School. She worked as a bank teller for First National Exchange Bank, where she met her future husband, Julian, while he was making a deposit. She loved traveling, reading, making sour dough bread, watching John Wayne movies, and crocheting. She was known as a character and popular everywhere she went with her bubbly personality and quick wit.

She is survived by her son, Steven Lawrence Marshall (Darlene); granddaughter, Jayne Marshall Richlak (Michael); grandson, Owen Lawrence Marshall; great-granddaughter, Maeve Harper Richlak; and her church family and friends.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Dr. Chris Monroe will officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Vinton Baptist Church.
