About | Phyllis Marlene Gibson Trumbull entered Heaven on Monday, April 8, 2024, after 85 years in this life. She was born on her mother's birthday on December 5, 1938, in Roanoke, Va. where she lived her entire life. Her departure from this life leaves a huge hole in her family. Phyllis was a Godly and giving woman whose priorities were God first, then family and friends. She was a good listener and generous with wise advice. She was very resourceful and empathetic. She was faithful in prayer for others. Phyllis had a lifelong love of music and a beautiful voice which was her gift. She sang in several choirs over the course of her lifetime and also solos at her church. She had a love for poetry and reading. She enjoyed fellowship with close friends and helping the elderly. Phyllis graduated from William Byrd High School in 1957. She was last employed by Roanoke County schools as a para professional teacher's assistant for over twenty-seven years. She worked with special education students at William Byrd Middle School and really had a heart for the children. Phyllis was a charter member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. She gave her heart to the Lord there at age ten. She was also a member of First Church of God since the time of her marriage at age eighteen and until her death. Phyllis Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Gibson and Mary Firebaugh Gibson, and also by her husband of 61 years, Oren "Buster" Trumbull. She is survived by her only child, daughter, Melody Trumbull Harrison and her son-in-law Don, of Roanoke. She is also survived by her loving and devoted sister, Janett Leffell of Roanoke and her brother-in- law, Robert Trumbull and his wife, Mary, of Fork Union, Va. Also surviving are her "chosen grandson," Haven "Nik" Andrews and his family of Kennebunk, Maine, and step granddaughter, Marica Scarles and family of Roanoke. Additionally, she is survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and also by her adored cat, Rocky. The family will receive primary visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Phyllis' funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with additional visitation at 9:30 a.m. that morning. The Rev. James Milner of First Church of God in Roanoke will conduct the service assisted by John Hopkins, Roger Oakes, and Cathy Jennings. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
