| About | Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Scott Jenkins, 80, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Vinton, Va., a daughter of the late William P. and Lera Brogan Scott. Betty was a faithful member of West Side Church of Christ in Salem. She will be remembered for her compassion, thoughtfulness and love for others. For several years she worked as a buyer for S.H. Heironimus, and was a private duty nurse for 10 years. She and Walter have been employed by Keystone Management (English Garden Apartments) since 1988, Walter as manager and Betty as assistant manager until her retirement in 2003. Betty was preceded in death by a brother, William Murphy Scott; sisters, Mildred Snider, Mary Anderson and Mabel Walker; special nephews, Mark Anderson, Tim Chisom, Ron Oliver and Billy Walker; and brothers-in-law, Roy Oliver, Nelson Woodall and Macon Walker. Left to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Walter D. Jenkins; daughter, Sandra Jenkins Bowen, of Roanoke; son, Steve Jenkins and wife, Teresa, of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Kristen McCarthy Bowen, of Blacksburg, Bradley Scott Jenkins and Rebecca Lynn Jenkins, of Goldsboro, N.C.; sisters, Doris Woodall, of Martinsville, Edith Oliver, of Moneta, Barbara Chisom and husband, Coleman, of Salem, and Patsy Hopkins and husband, Jim, of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Lynn Anderson, of Salem, Va.; sister-in-law, Margie Jenkins Milton, of Roanoke; brothers-in-law, Bernie Jenkins and wife, Jackie, of Crestview, Fla., and Rupert Jenkins and wife, Isabella, of Norlina, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; and also her special caregivers, Deborah Lynn Hickson and Debbie Thornhill. Funeral Services will be held at noon on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Charlie Gwaltney and Tommy Blewett officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 20, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221. |
