Donald Irvin Bowles, 62, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 26, 1996, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William D. and Mamie T. Bowles; a sister, Ann Cary; and brother, Calvin T. Bowles.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Wanda H. Bowles; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Greg Lane, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sandra Bowles; stepgrandson, Cody Turman, all of Blue Ridge; brothers and their wives, Holly and Reba Bowles, John and Rita Bowles; sisters, Virginia I. Bowles, Nellie Gross and husband, Frank, Alpha Hardy and Mary Gibson; several nieces and nephews.
He was a long time member of the Riverdale Baptist Church where he served as a youth Sunday School teacher, deacon and choir member, and in other capacities. He was a graduate of William Byrd High School and Virginia Polytechnical Institute in Blacksburg, and a member of the R.O.T.C. He also served in the United States Air Force.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Riverdale Baptist Church, with his pastor, the Rev. Robert W. Lanier officiating, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the future building program for youth and children of Riverdale Baptist Church, c/o 1624 Edgerton Ave., SE., Roanoke, VA
