About | Ronald Edward White, (Ronnie) 67, of Troutville formerly of Roanoke, passed peacefully from this world to the next on Sunday, October 18, 1998 after a brief fight with cancer. Ronnie was born January 11, 1931, the son of Harry and Cleo White of Vinton. He attended William Byrd High School, served proudly in the Korean Conflict and worked for 22 years for Associated Transport Trucking Company. He retired in 1993 from the A.B.C. Board of Virginia with 17 years of service. Ronnie was a talented musician, able to play any instrument that he picked up although he never had any formal training whatsoever. He loved his music and brought immense joy to those around him through both his musical talents and his ready and quick sense of humor. He was raised in the country spending the summers of his youth on his grandparents Bedford County Farm. Throughout his life he retained an affinity for the rural farm life, its people, music, and simple ways. He always said that a good bowl of beans and cornbread beat a filet migon hands down. Ronnie raised three children teaching them all that life is more about honesty, dedication and devotion than worldly gain. He valued his relationships with his family and his friends so highly that he would gladly drop everything to help anyone who needed his assistance whether asked to or not. Not a single soul was a stranger to him; he loved people and made friends readily and easily. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Ronnie leaves behind to mourn his passing his loving wife of 44 years, Joan Marie Price White; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Kim White of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Phillips of Roanoke; son and future daughter-in-law, Corbin and Cheyenne (Dalton) White of Bent Mountain; four grandchildren, Caitlin and Tucker White, Patrick and Sam Phillips, also surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Gene White of Vinton; brother-in law and sister-in-law, Dean and Martha Price of Roanoke, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, counsins and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 1998 with the Rev. William E. Hungate and Dr. William L. Ross officiating. Interment will be in The Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens and the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. |
