About Guy V. Funk, 76, of Roanoke County, went to be with his Lord on Thursday morning, December 4, 2003, at his home.

Guy served in the United States Navy during World War II and then served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, was a member of Vinton Masonic Lodge #204, Roanoke Scottish Rite Bodies, and retired from APCO (now AEP) as a Garage Supervisor with 38 years service.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Archie H. and Uldine Jeter Funk; two sisters, Mary Crowder and Azile Smith.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Hasseltine (Tennie) Conner Funk; his children, Debbie and Rickey McDaniel of Boones Mill, Bruce and Donna Funk of Hardy, Jennifer and Billy Gayle of Roanoke County; his grandchildren, Travis McDaniel of Taylors, S.C., Whitney Cummins and husband, Tom of Germantown, Md., Lindsay McDaniel of Boones Mill, Matthew Funk and wife, Amy of Scotch Plains, N.J., Caleb Taylor and wife, Julie, Melody Belcher and husband, Jeff, all of Roanoke; two great-granddaughters, Michayla Belcher and Stella Mae Taylor; one step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Colls; one step-great-grandson, Trevor Belcher; his sisters, Josephine Sapp of Roanoke, Rae Haga and husband, Allan of Glen Allen, Va.; brothers-in-law, Shirley Crowder and Herman Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel Saturday, December 6, 2003, 12 noon, with the Rev. R. Bruce Griffith, Jr. officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton with a graveside Masonic service and military honors. The family will receive friends Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
