About	Darrell Calvin English, 96, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 10, 2023. Darrell was a lifelong servant of the Lord, and was acknowledged by many as one of the most Godly men they knew. His daily life was a tremendous witness of his love of and service to the Lord and others! Darrell never met a stranger and was immediately loved by everyone who met him! Darrell was a faithful member of the Vinton Wesleyan Church, starting there at age 8 and serving there for most of his life except during his service in the Navy during World War II. He taught Sunday School for over 65 years, still teaching in November 2022. He served as Vice Chairman of the Local Board of Administration and also Lay Speaker for 38 years. He served as Delegate to the District Conference for 60 years. Darrell served as Trustee for the church for many years and did weekly visitation for many years. Darrell served in the U.S.Navy during World War II, leaving school at age 17 to enlist and serve his country. He was very proud of his service to his country and later spent many hours visiting veterans at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. Darrell worked as a Machinist with Norfolk & Western Railway (later Norfolk Southern) for over 40 years. Darrell was born on December 10, 1926 to the late Willie and Georgie English. He was also preceded in death by his wife and love of his life Callie Gordon English, his brother and sister-in-law Donald 'Demp' English and Linda C. English and his infant nephew David, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil Gordon, Richard and Marion Gordon, Calvin and Ruth Gordon, Wesley and Nannie Gordon, Maynard and Louise Gordon, Jr and Evelyn Wheeler and James and Mary Lois Vaught, nieces and nephews Curtis Vaught, Kenneth Vaught, Gloria Manning, Ed Parker and Ashley Thomas.
