| About | Ellen Reynolds Basham, (MawMaw), 70, much loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away at her daughters home with her family by her side, on Monday, June 7, 1999. She was employed for 20 years with Caldwell Sites and retired with 11 years service from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia. Ellen was a lifelong member of the Garden City Baptist Church, T.T.T. Sunday School Class and the "Quilters Group". Her family will never forget her courageous fight for life and from this each of us have gained enormous strength. The gift of love, caring, devotion and guidance, Ellen has given her family and friends will be greatly missed, but the memories will always remain in our hearts. Grieving her loss here on earth are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda B. and Bruce W. Watkins; grandchildren, Daryl W. Watkins of Norfolk and Melody S. Watkins and fiance, Jay W. Baker III of Roanoke; her twin sister, Evelyn R. and husband, Earl Clasbey of Salem; nieces, Brenda and husband, Donnie Jones of Moneta and Beverly and husband, Michael Slaughter of Roanoke; great-nieces and nephews, Bryan and Sherman Jones of Moneta and Jesse and Rosie Slaughter of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Frances Basham of Vinton, Annie Lee and husband, Eddie Lloyd of Montvale; and her devoted companion and pet Oreo, who never left her side. The family wishes to express special thanks to Kelly and Martha from Carilion Hospice, Pam from Kelly Assisted Living, Dr. Robert Heath, Dr. Sam Williams and Dr. Stephen Kennedy. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Thursday, June 10, 1999 at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. Don McCaskill and special music by Carolyn Rich, whom the family wishes to thank. The interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Memorials may be made to the Garden City Baptist Church or Carilion Hospice. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel. |
