About Hassell Arnold "Coke" Hale, 90, of Roanoke, departed this life to be with Jesus on Friday, April 7, 2006. He was born and lived his life in Vinton, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Peter Hale, his mother Valrie Johnson Hale, brothers Howard D. (his twin), Herman, Kermit, Calvin and sisters Sylvia McAllister, Amy Henretta and Geraldine Griffen.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Annie Armintie Mabe Hale; one son, Donald W. Hale and wife, Nancy of Vinton; one daughter, Carolyn Hale McIntyre and husband, David of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Kathy Lynn Hale Gunter and husband, Gary of Mt. Airy, N.C., Donna Jean Hale Marcani and husband, Chris of Eagle Rock and Michael McIntyre and wife, Renee of Christiansburg; one sister, Maxine Warren Powers of Florida; a sister-in-law, Maude S. Hale; four great-grandchildren, Megan Anne and Matthew Allen Pillis of Roanoke, also Jonathan and Allysand McIntyre of Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Hassell was a lifetime member of the Roanoke Primitive Baptist Church for 60 years. He served the church as Trustee, Deacon, Clerk and an assistant to the Pastor. He joined Roanoke Church on November 14, 1947 and was baptized by Elder Cecil Turner on November 30, 1947. Hassell worked for Appalachian Power Company and retired after 37 years of faithful service.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006 from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with Elder W. T. Conner officiating. Burial to follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.
