About	Billy Wheeler McCarty, 83, of Vinton, died April 10, 2005. He was born in Vinton on March 30, 1922, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. McCarty was retired from American Bridge and the Eaton Corporation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lizzie McCarty and brothers, Ivy and Erman "Hawkeye" McCarty. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, June Wright McCarty; a son, Kerry McCarty of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Kim McCarty of Vinton; grandchildren, Kelly and Tom McCarty of Vinton. Graveside services with military rites will be conducted at noon Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Bill Booth and the Rev. Stephen Stanley officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
