About | Early in the morning on Friday, July 17, 2009, Wesley Perneau Gordon Sr., 80, of Vinton, closed his eyes on earth and opened them to see the shining face of his Lord and Savior. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends, all of whom he had touched in some way throughout his life. Wesley worked for Norfolk & Western Railway and later Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 40 years and served as General Chairman for 13 years. He was born March 11, 1929, the son of the late John Hatcher Gordon and Callie Wooldridge Gordon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nannie Lee Turner Gordon. Surviving are his daughter, Susan Gordon Quesenberry and her husband, Michael, of Vinton; son, Wesley Gordon, Jr. and his wife, Sheri, of Hardy; four grandchildren, Andrea Lawhorn, Chad Quesenberry, Jacob Gordon and Mary Gordon; three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor and Hunny; sister, Callie English and husband, Darrell, of Vinton; brother, Ed Gordon and wife, Deanna, of Vinton; brother-in-law, Samuel (Junior) wheeler, of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Louise Gordon, of Hardy, Marion Gordon, of Vinton, Mildred Turner, of Roanoke and Betty Jean Turner, of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Ricardo Rodriguez officiating. interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to the Unit I staff at Berkshire Health & Rehab Center for their special care during his last months.
