ASHWELL, Richard Wayne, 59, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 18, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Ashwell was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Anderw Ashwell. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie R. Ashwell of Roanoke, his mother, Mrs. Thomas (Della) Ashwell of Roanoke; two brothers, Douglas W. Ashwell and wife, Brenda, of Vinton, James E. Ashwell and wife, Marsha, of Roanoke, two daughters, Dana Blankenship, Joni Danielson and husband, Eric all of Roanoke, two grandchildren, Jason Blankenship and Amanda Ashwell. He is also survived by his nephews, Matthew and Blake Ashwell, a niece, Angela Ashwell; numerous other nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice for their support and care during Richard's battle with cancer. With special thanks going to Alan Mabry. The family would also like to thank Lynn Haven Baptist Church for their thoughts, prayers, support, and visits during Richard illness. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Edward Creel and Rev. Berkley Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
