About Alfred Victor Thomas, Jr. ("Vic Jr." "Little Vic"), 55, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully May 18, 2006. A local master builder and general contractor, Vic Jr. was the eldest son of Dorothy and the late state legislator Alfred Victor "Vic" Thomas, Sr. A licensed pilot and avid boater, Vic Jr. was known and loved as a man who walked his own path in his life with warmth, service, good humor and love for God, friends and family. He led the rebuilding efforts for reconstructing the family store on Tinker's Creek after the flood of '85. You could count on Little Vic to be there for you anytime with all his strength, wisdom, and heart. Vic felt a lifelong kinship to the ocean and beaches of South Carolina. A familiar and frequent figure at Smith Mountain Lake, Vic Jr. was also known for his rich laughter and enjoyment of social gatherings and fine cooking skills. Before karaoke was a popular pastime, Vic Jr. sang with easy confidence for others at parties. There was never anything average about Vic, he was not your average bear. Vic always blazed his own path, never a follower. He was a "Shining Star" right here on earth. As Vic Jr. has made his most perfect and important flight to be with his Lord and Savior, he will be greatly missed in his many roles in life. A loving eldest son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and steadfast, faithful friend to many, Vic Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Victor "Vic" Thomas on April 26, 2006. Also preceding Vic Jr. in death were his niece, Erica Rae Thomas; nephews, Cole and Samuel Thomas; brother-in-law, Keith Johnson; grandparents, Genevieve Nero and Ellis James Thomas, and William and Mae Lucas; uncles Gerald Lucas, Buddy Thomas, and Ronnie Thomas. Vic Jr. is survived by his beloved mother and best friend, Dorothy "Dot" Thomas. Like his father before him, Vic Jr. lived life and had a fierce love for the Lord. In lieu of flowers, the Thomas family requests that donations in Vic Jr.'s name be made to the Vic Thomas, Sr. Scholarship Fund at Radford University. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, Church Avenue downtown, 982-2100, on Saturday, May 20, 2006, 4 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, May 21, 2006, 3 to 6:30 p.m., with a Christian Wake at 6 p.m. A private service for the family will be held Monday at St. Andrew's Church.
