About It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt and dear friend Kimberly Brabham Gembala. Kim left this world on July 22, 2023.

Born on September 14, 1957, Kim was a radiant light from the very beginning. With her infectious smile and kind nature, she touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering positivity and zest for life were a source of inspiration to everyone around her.

Kim was preceded in death by her father James Brabham and mother Dorothea Brabham. She is survived by her husband of 28 years Mike Gembala. She is also survived by her brothers and their spouses, Jim and Robin Brabham of Hardy and Danny and Shannon Brabham of Roanoke; nieces and nephews Nicole Brabham Cook (Jerome), Ivie Brabham Lilly (Jared), Taylor Brabham, Zach Brabham, Jake Brabham (Stacey) and Nick Brabham; great nephew Elijah Cook and great nieces Loretta Lilly and Baylor Brabham.

Kim retired from The Rescue Mission of Roanoke in 2020 after more than 17 years of service. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church and was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted wife to Mike and a loving mother to their cats Squeaky, Nevin and Yella. Kim cherished every moment spent with her family and friends.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Kim’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 10:00 am at Mount Pleasant Cemetery located at 3030 Mount Pleasant Blvd. Roanoke, VA 24014. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to The Roanoke Rescue Mission in Kim’ honor, continuing her legacy of compassion and giving.
