About | Julia Beatrice Wilson Hoffler Patterson, 94, of Salem, Va., peacefully passed from life to eternal rest in New Haven, Conn., on Thursday, February 3, 2011. She was born on November 17, 1916, in Keysville, Va., the first child of Clarence Veasey Wilson and Violet Beatrice Gray Wilson. Julia was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard W. Hoffler Sr. and Vencil F. Patterson Sr.; parents; and siblings, E. Clarice Wilson Banks and Jessie Elizabeth Wilson. She was a long time member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Salem, Va. Julia was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Girl Friends, Inc., The Links, Inc., Roanoke Coffee Club, Shamrock Bridge Club, Pinochle Joylettes, Community Housing Board (Hoffler Manor), and the Dinner Dance Club. Our beloved Julia Bea is survived by her two sons, Richard W. Hoffler Jr., MD (Sylvia), of Virginia Beach, Va., and Reginald A. Hoffler, MD, of New Haven, Conn.; two stepchildren, Bentley L. Patterson Gibson, MD (Ronald), of White Plains, N.Y., and Marvin Patterson, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Patterson, of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Edward Hoffler and Erica Hoffler; two nieces, Violet (V.V.) Banks Broomfield, of Washington, D.C., and Jacqueline Hoffler Hudson (Richard), of North Carolina; one nephew, William Wayland Hoffler Jr. (Sarah), of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren; great and great-great-nieces, and nephews; a host of cousins; and many wonderful friends. Dr. Gladys White has been a life long friend and a continuous friend of the family for over the past eight decades. Special thanks and love is extended to her family of cousins, the Jackson's of New Haven, Conn. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Adrian E. Dowell officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
